Choose Your Screen Quality
When replacing a damaged or broken phone screen, you may be offered several different screen options. At HillsTech, we give you a choice so you can select the screen that best suits your budget, expectations and how you use your phone.
💰 Budget Option — LCD Screen
Our Budget LCD option is designed for customers who want to get their phone back up and running while keeping the repair cost as low as possible.
LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. Unlike the original OLED screen found on many modern smartphones, an LCD screen uses a separate backlight behind the display to produce the image you see.
Because LCD technology is generally cheaper to manufacture, it allows us to offer a more affordable screen replacement. However, there can be some noticeable differences compared with the original screen.
Depending on the phone model, an LCD replacement may have slightly different colours, contrast and brightness, and blacks may appear more grey because the backlight remains on behind the display. The screen can also be slightly thicker than the original OLED panel, which may affect how the display sits within the phone.
An LCD can be a great choice if price is your main priority, you’re repairing an older phone, or you simply need a reliable replacement without spending more on premium display technology.
Best for: Customers looking for the most affordable repair option.
⭐ High Quality — OLED Screen
Our High Quality OLED option offers a significant step up from a standard LCD and is designed to provide a display experience much closer to the original screen.
OLED stands for Organic Light-Emitting Diode. Unlike LCD technology, OLED pixels produce their own light, meaning there is no separate backlight required. Individual pixels can actually switch themselves off when displaying black, giving the screen deeper blacks, stronger contrast and more vibrant colours.
OLED screens are made using a flexible OLED panel. This allows the display to more closely replicate the shape, thickness and flexibility of the original OLED panel used in many smartphones.
Compared with an LCD, an OLED will generally provide better contrast, richer colours, improved viewing angles and a more premium appearance. It can also be thinner and closer in construction to the original display.
For many customers, OLED provides the best balance between price and quality. It gives you a premium-looking display without the cost of sourcing a genuine refurbished original screen.
Best for: Customers who want excellent display quality without paying the price of an original refurbished screen.
🏆 Refurbished Original Screen — Genuine Original Quality
Our Refurbished Original option is the premium choice for customers who want to retain the closest possible experience to the screen their phone originally came with.
A refurbished original screen uses a genuine manufacturer-original display panel that has been recovered from an original device. The damaged glass or other worn components are professionally refurbished or replaced, while the original display panel is retained where possible.
This is important because the display panel itself is genuine original hardware rather than an aftermarket replacement.
A refurbished original screen can therefore offer the closest match to the factory-fitted display, including its colour reproduction, brightness, contrast, viewing angles, touch response and overall feel.
For customers who are particularly particular about screen quality, use their phone heavily for photography, video, gaming or everyday work, or simply want their phone to feel as close to factory condition as possible, this is the option we recommend.
Because genuine original displays are more expensive and require additional refurbishment processes, the Refurbished Original option is normally the most expensive screen replacement choice.
Best for: Customers who want genuine original display quality and the closest possible match to the screen supplied with the phone when new.
Which Screen Should I Choose?
If you’re unsure which option is right for you, here’s a simple way to think about it:
LCD — Budget
Choose this if you want to spend as little as possible and just need a reliable replacement screen.
Soft OLED — High Quality
Choose this if you want a high-quality display with excellent colours, contrast and a more premium feel, while keeping the repair price reasonable.
Refurbished Original — Premium
Choose this if you want the closest possible experience to the original factory-fitted screen and don’t mind paying more for genuine original hardware.
Our Recommendation
For most customers, OLED is the sweet spot. It provides a much more premium display experience than a budget LCD while usually costing considerably less than a refurbished original screen.
If price is the priority, go with LCD.
If quality and value are the priority, OLED is an excellent choice.
If you want the closest possible match to the original factory screen, choose Refurbished Original.
If you’re still unsure, our team at HillsTech can advise you on the best option for your specific phone model before carrying out the repair.
